Common Grackle
Recognition
Adult males about 12” in length, have a blue-black shiny head; the top part of the breast is also this color. The body is brown. The eyes are bright yellow. Females and juveniles are smaller and are not iridescent in their head coloration.
Where seen
Often seen in the olive trees around Walmart and Home Depot . Sometimes roosts in the trees along New Post Road.
Jimmy’s notes
The bright yellow eye is a give-away sign. These noisy birds come to bird feeders, first and last thing in the day. They tend to move about in flocks. In the breeding season only breeding pairs are seen. Once they have spotted your bird feeder, expect to see them every day.
