Common Yellowthroat

Recognition
These birds have yellow-brown backs and a brighter yellow under the chin.  Adult males have a black face mask. These are quite small birds and measure about 5 inches in length

Where seen
These birds are often seen in the marshy areas of the mangroves behind Sir Walter Way and in the wet areas behind Marker 34.

Jimmy’s notes
May be confused with the yellow-rumped warbler which definitely has less yellow on its breast.  These warblers, unlike others in this group, are seen all year round and are therefore non-migratory.  But like most warblers, they are most active first thing in the morning when they are in search of food.
