Eurasian Collared Dove

Recognition
Pale grey bird with a partial black neck collar. The tail is quite long and has a square end to it. In the photograph taken at my bird feeder, you can see a series of darker under tail coverts. Size:  approx 12”.

Where to see
Throughout the village and particularly at bird feeders. May also be seen perched on the wires all along New Post Road.

Jimmy’s notes
When alighting at tables, it often gives a distinctive cooing sound. This species is non-indigenous and were originally introduced into the Bahamas about 25 years ago.

These birds will feed on the top of a bird feeder unlike mourning doves which are ground feeders.
