Recognition
A grey headed bird with a crest. The upper breast is grey and the rest of the breast is yellow. The tail and back are brown.
Where seen
These birds are difficult to see as they are often high up in the foliage feeding on insects.
Occasionally seen in the tall trees in Lara Circle, Thomas Jefferson Lane and Concord Drive.
Jimmy’s notes
These birds are quite large for flycatchers and are about 8 inches in length. Like woodpeckers they are often heard before they are seen. The crest is composed of longer feathers on the head.
They are often seen perching high upon a tree with very few branches and then diving down or hovering to catch insects. After catching an insect, they often fly back to the original perch. |
