Great Egret
Recognition
Heron-like birds, of about three feet in length, white all over, with a long yellow bill and long legs.
Where seen
Often seen in the ponds at Lara Circle and Concord drive. There is a large colony of these birds on Bird Island which lies on the left heading up river to towards the railroad trestle bridge.
Jimmy’s notes
This is the largest of the egrets and can often be seen hanging around outdoor restaurants waiting to be fed. Like herons they are often seen stalking prey in the margins. Singles are often seen around all the ponds at OBV.
