Recognition
The male stands out like a sore thumb because it is blue in colour. The female is light brown with a few darker streaks on the back and wings. The legs are dark coloured.
Where seen
An occasional visitor that comes to bird feeder provided it is filled with seeds!
Jimmy’s notes
These are quite small finch-like birds, about 5-6 inches in length. They are sometimes seen here in Old Bridge around the latter part of the Spring just before they leave Florida and head north.
Like the Blue Jay, it appears to be blue because it doesn’t have any blue pigment in its feathers.
