Northern Mockingbird
Recognition
A grey colored bird with paler white or grey belly and breast. The bill is black and there are white flashes on the wing.
Where seen
Sitting on telephone wires along New Post Road and atop trees all around the village.
Jimmy’s notes
Appears not to be too wary of people and can be “snook up upon”. In the breeding season, seems to sing all day long and can often be seen in pursuit of mates and rivals. It also sings at night. Flicks its tail a lot. This is the state bird of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. How strange that it should be called “Northern”! A good mimic with males said to have a repertoire of 50-200 songs.
