Red-shouldered Hawk
Recognition
The breast is reddish in color and the wings dark brown with whitish spots. The tail consists of black and white bands.
Where seen
All over the park and nests in the fir trees at Lara Circle and is often seen in the trees at the approach to Concord.
Jimmy’s notes
This is the hawk that can often be heard screaming. Our birds in the park are resident birds and have been here for a number of years. In flight, the red wing linings can be seen. When you hear one calling, there is often another one in the same vicinity. Because these hawks are local, they tend to be around their favorite perching sites.
