Roseate Spoonbill

Recognition
These have as the name suggests a bill shaped like a spoon or a shoe horn. These birds are largely pink in coloration but not as bright as a flamingo. Juveniles are similar to the adults but are a lot paler in their pink coloration.

Where seen
At the Ding Darling and Corkscrew Reserves.

Jimmy’s notes
Generally seen in small flocks hunting prey in the shallows.  This species prefers to hunt in shallow freshwater but can also be seen in coastal shallows. The uninitiated bird spotter may think that these are flamingoes, but the bill is a big giveaway.
