Sandhill Crane

Recognition
These are very tall gray birds which have long legs and long necks. Adult males have a red cap and are about 4 feet in height. Juvenile birds do not have the red cap.

Where seen
Seen at the Ding Darling reserve and Corkscrew reserves.

Jimmy’s notes
One of the tallest birds found in the world and when disturbed they issue a rattling sound. If you see one, you will probably uncover a number of these birds feeding together. The name “crane” comes from the Old English word “cran” meaning “large wading bird”.
