Recognition
A small bird about 5 to 6 inches in length with a metallic blue back. The chin, breast and under parts are white. Females, as in most birds, are duller.
Where seen
Flying in and out of nest boxes which people have erected in their gardens along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River.
Jimmy’s notes
There are a series of nest boxes on the southern bank of Franklin Locks which are occupied by a small colony in the summer breeding season.
Unlike the Barn Swallow, these birds don’t have a distinctive forked tail but they still have a slight V shaped notch.
