White-eyed Vireo

Recognition

A small shy bird and as the name implies, it has white eyes. Quite a non-descript looking bird but has olive green under parts, yellow sides and spectacles with a white throat and two white wing bars.

Where seen

Seen foraging in the mangrove areas of Old Bridge.

Jimmy’s notes

Forages deliberately with short hops or flights, pausing to look for insects by tilting its head and peering.

The word vireo is a mid 19th century word derived from Latin (literally "I am green") perhaps meaning a greenfinch.
