Willet
Recognition
The adult breeding plumage is brown and this changes to a dull grey in autumn and winter. The long bill is also grey.
Where seen
Feeding along the shorelines at Sanibel and Captiva.
Jimmy’s notes
This is a typical wading bird with long legs. In flight, it can be recognized by the distinctive black and white linings to the wings. Waders to some birders all look the same and I would recommend that you buy a book and study them in greater detail. These birds, like most waders have rather dull plumages outside of the breeding season.
