Community Service
Caring for Others

Community Service had its beginning soon after the community opened in 1972.

Because the area was barely developed, Old Bridge was isolated. There were no shopping centers, restaurants or supermarkets nearby and because of this, OBV residents became good, close and concerned neighbours. Their primary goal was to look after one another.

This meant checking on illnesses, hospitalizations, welcoming new residents, providing food and transportation when needed, sending cards etc.

The basic concept of Community Service has not changed since then, although the areas of concern have varied over the years. For the past eight years or so, the program has sponsored Blood Drives, Safe Driving classes, Flu Shot programs and special speakers on topics such as Hurricane awareness or fire safety.

It has also promoted outside participation in activities such as Salvation Army Christmas bell ringing, the local food pantry and gathering clothes for local elementary schools.

The future of Community Service lies with the Old Bridge Social Alliance - long may it flourish with Old Bridgers continuing to demonstrate their care and concern for their neighbors.
