TOYS FOR TOTS

While enjoying your summer,  please keep donations in mind when planning your budget for the fall. We kick off in September!

Thanks
Les Howes,
Volunteer Coordinator

Les Howes has agreed to chair this year's Toys for Tots campaign. She describes her first project here:

“This year we'll have a bigger tree - bigger ornaments. We're looking for volunteers to donate used toys as those ornaments. Size: approximately 6-8 inches.  Perhaps scavenge thrift shops (under a buck), northern cellars, discards from grandkids. We don't need them now, but would like to line them up now.

So whether you are north or south, whether you are a Yacht Club member or not, please help if you can. No Grinch-stealing from grandkids! Let the hunt begin! Thanks.”

You can contact Les on  239-567-0905 or by
email.

Introduction

Old Bridge Yacht Club was organized many years ago to encourage sociability and friendship among the members and to promote the sport of boating and proper seamanship.  OBYC includes a wide array of boating activities and an exciting calendar of parties, dances, and special events for resident boaters and non-boaters alike.

OBYC is incorporated in the State of Florida as a non-profit corporation.  The club is governed by its elected officers (The Bridge), which are the Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Fleet Captain, Treasurer and Secretary.

The Yacht Club maintains a bulletin board and easel in the main Clubhouse card room where events and announcements are posted.  Yacht Club representatives are also available at Kaffee Klatch on Saturday mornings to answer questions, announce new activities, register new members, and operate the DVD lending library.

Membership

Membership is on an annual basis.  The normal yearly membership fee is $15.00 per person and is payable by February 28th each year. New residents' dues may be pro-rated.  Members are entitled to participate in OBYC's free DVD lending library program.

All new members will be contacted by an existing member to help familiarize them with the club, learn the local waters and advise of safety courses, inspections and other valuable boating information.

Activities and Events

Meetings
Regular monthly meetings of the Yacht Club are held on the last Tuesday of each month (except July and December) in the main Clubhouse.  Coffee and doughnuts are served at 8:00am and the meeting starts at 9:00am.  The Yacht Club holds a "Boat to Lunch" event after each monthly meeting.  Boaters cruising to lunch endeavor to include non-boaters on their vessels, while others travel to the restaurant by car.

OBYC sponsors a wide variety of events during the year, both on land and on sea.  These typically include the Shipwreck Party, Halloween Party, Poopdeck Party, Christmas Boat Parade, Blessing of the Fleet/Game Day, Steak Fry at Franklin Locks, Fishing Tournament, 4th of July Rendezvous, Multi-Night Boat Trips, and Picnic Raft-Offs.  The semi-formal Commodore's Ball is held in January during which the official transfer of office of all the Bridge is made.
