Ladyfish or Skipjack

When: summer and early autumn

Description

Slender, shiny, silver-colored fish which resemble baby tarpon.

Size

Tend to run in packs of the same size. We have rarely caught one over 2lbs and most are under the pound mark.

Food Value

No appeal, but don’t forget to keep them on ice, take them home and store them in old newspaper and plastic bags in your deep freeze. We have found that they are one of the best cut baits available. So when you catch them, view that you are obtaining one of the best all round baits for free.

Game Qualities

When hooked, they become acrobats jumping across the surface. When you catch one you know that you will catch a few more.

Tackle and Baits

Light spinning rod with 20lb braid when fishing with lures. Recommended lure: most small silver spinners and spoons; however, we have had a lot of success with Mepps’ Syclops, silver or gold and make sure you buy the “sea version”.
